VH Math Carnival

They made their mark before they moved on from the Van Holten Primary School.

The 4th Grade students who will attend their final classes at Van Holten on Thursday, June 19, teamed up to sponsor the first school-wide Math Carnival.

The Math Carnival was held on Monday, June 16, and Tuesday, June 17, and the event was forced to be held on the front walkway rather than the playground area of the school due to the wet weather.

Danielle Powell, one of the 4th Grade Teachers at Van Holten, was the spearhead behind this creative carnival.

She explained the project.

“The Math Carnival was a huge success! The 4th Grade Teachers looked at all the grade-level standards, and the students incorporated those standards into their carnival games and questions they posed to each grade level,” Ms. Powell said.

She continued with how mature and helpful the 4th Graders were to their younger schoolmates.

“This was a very exciting culminating STEAM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) activity that our students worked very hard to create. The 4th Graders were encouraging to the younger students, and it was a great example of kindness and leadership. They solved any challenges that arose, and everyone was having fun, even if they didn't win!”

Ms. Powell concluded.

“This activity involved STEAM and SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) all in one! All of the kids walked away with a few prizes, but more importantly, memories that will last a lifetime!
