Hillside battl eof books champs

Bragging rights in the library—and in the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District–have been secured by the Hillside Intermediate School.

Hillside was crowned champion when its reading-focused team of five students won the Final Battle of the Books Competition against rival Eisenhower Intermediate School.

The champion team, which competed in the final round after the students won its Battle of the Books competition this spring at Hillside, is called Team “#Cozy Cats & a Cup of Tea.”

Hillside’s championship students are:

Adhithi Hanji (Team Captain)

Aria Gong

Abigail Tu

Melissa Shan

Mithra Karthik

According to Andrea Attanasio, Hillside’s Librarian and Teacher who coordinated the competition, the five Hillside students “delivered an outstanding performance in the championship match.”

‘The Battle of the Books program encourages students to develop a love of reading while strengthening teamwork and critical-thinking skills,” Ms. Attanasio said.

Ms. Attanasio explained the championship battle against the winners from Eisenhower’s competition this year.

“The final competition challenged students with 29 multiple-choice questions based on the 12 books they had read throughout the program. Team members demonstrated impressive teamwork, reading comprehension, and attention to detail as they worked together to answer questions about characters, events, and quotations from the selected books.”

She continued to share the process.

“We gave the final test at each school and compared the results to determine a winner. “

Ms. Attanasio reported that Hillside’s team completed all 29 questions in just seven minutes and finished with only three incorrect answers, securing the championship title, which was officially declared on Monday, May 18.

Ms. Attanasio concluded

“Their dedication, preparation, and collaboration throughout the competition were evident in their remarkable achievement.”
