Teamwork was the answer to winning this battle for five students at the Hillside Intermediate School.
The Hillside Battle of the Books was held during the week of April 6, with 12 teams of students totaling 65 pupils taking on the challenge.
Andrea Attanasio, Hillside’s Librarian and Teacher, coordinated the competition, which she explained.
“Each team was responsible for reading a total of 12 books and was challenged to recall specific details and quotes from each one. Team members relied on one another’s knowledge and preparation, working together to answer questions and support their team throughout the competition.”
The quest to win the championship was highly contested.
“The competition was incredibly close, with the top five teams separated by just one or two questions. Each round was filled with excitement as teams worked hard to recall details from the books and support one another under pressure,” Ms. Attanasio revealed.
The group that emerged as the eventual champion was called #Cozy Cats & A Cup of Tea.
The championship students for Hillside are:
Adhithi Hanji (Team Captain)
Aria Gong
Abigail Tu
Melissa Shan
Mithra Karthik
“We are very proud of all the students who participated. Their dedication and commitment made this event a great success, and it was inspiring to see such strong collaboration and sportsmanship,’ Ms. Attanasio said.
Now that these five students earned bragging rights in their building, they will represent Hillside and compete against the winning Battle of the Books team from the Eisenhower Intermediate School sometime this May to determine the overall champion.
