It was quite a memorable—and eventful— week for the choir students at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.
According to Lisa Rotondi, Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s dedicated and enthusiastic Director of Choirs, the Bridgewater-Raritan High School choir students first received awards and will then attend a festival at Six Flags Great Adventure.
And, yes, they also found the time on Tuesday, May 27, to successfully perform during their “A Spring Choral Concert.”
The high school auditorium was the setting when the six choir groups produced a spectacular concert to the delight of an attentive audience.
The six Bridgewater-Raritan High School choir groups who performed were the Glee Ensemble, the Select Treble Choir, the Mixed Choir, the Lorelei Ensemble, the Choir Seniors and the Symphonic Choir. The final set was then sung by the Combined Choirs.
Ms. Rotondi shared her passion of her choir students.
“I was so proud of the choirs after their performance on Tuesday evening. We have grown together over the past school year in not only our musical skills but also interpersonally as well. I know that many of these singers will remain friends for life," she said.
Ms.Rotondi outlined what was a busy and productive week.
“A highlight of our performance season was last week when we attended the NJ ACDA High School Festival and received Superior ratings in all choirs, plus an Exemplary (perfect) score in Sight-Reading for Symphonic Choir,’ Ms. Rotondi reported. “Our run of spring performances will conclude this weekend (May 30-June 1) at the Music in Parks festival at Six Flags Great Adventure.
One audience member who loudly applauded the concert showing was Matt McCarthy, the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District Supervisor of Arts Education.
“The evening’s program provided an excellent presentation of what our choral offerings aim to achieve. The diversity of selections and the context provided by the student speakers highlighted that students are doing more than just mastering a particular style or genre of music,” Mr. McCarthy said. “They are reaching across the breadth of choral music, sinking deep into the literature and reflecting on its elements, beauty, and meaning.”
Mr. McCarthy added:
“Ms. Rotondi is an exceptional instructor who fosters curiosity, ambition, and confidence in young musicians. These same qualities characterize the high caliber of instruction she provides each day.”
He finished with this thought about the concert.
“The students sounded superb!”
