Dear Students & Parents,
Welcome to the 2021 – 2022 Roots & Shoots programs at Hillside School. Because Roots & Shoots is our school theme there are many different ways for you and your child to become involved, both within and out of the school day. You may choose to take advantage of one or all of these opportunities.
There is a one-time activity fee of $50 required for joining the Roots & Shoots Environmental clubs. Please pay online by going to MyPaymentsPlus (www.MyPaymentsPlus.com).
As a Roots & Shoots Environmental Club member you have the opportunity to participate in both HELP (Hillside’s Environmental Leaders & Protectors) and SRS (Students Raising Students).
Once you have signed up, you will receive an email from Miss Masud or Mr. Smith to join our Roots & Shoots Google Classroom.
We look forward to your involvement this year.
Roots & Shoots Advisors
Our first virtual meeting is at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, October 20th.
Below is a description of each program.
HELP! (Hillside’s Environmental Leaders & Protectors)
HELP is the Roots & Shoots program dedicated to protecting animals and the environment. Our mission is to create and maintain a native schoolyard habitat that attracts many different forms of wildlife. We are responsible for organizing backyard workdays throughout the year and coordinating Hillside’s Forest Fest in June. We are also involved with Martin Luther King Day of Service in January.
STUDENTS RAISING STUDENTS (SRS)
Students Raising Students is the Roots & Shoots program committed to learning about the lives of children around the world and to promoting the educational rights and aspirations of every child. Specifically, our mission is to raise awareness about the impact of poverty on the lives of children in East Africa, and to increase their educational opportunities through scholarships. We are responsible for sponsoring Celebrity Chef Challenge in October. We also have a booth at Hillside’s Forest Fest in June.
