Hillside Day of Service

Hillside’s PTO & Roots & Shoots Program Proudly Presents

Hillside Day of Service 2020

Dear Students & Parents:

During the 1950s and ’60s, civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. recognized the power of service to strengthen communities and achieve common goals.  Initiated by Congress in 1994, the Martin Luther King Day of Service is designed to transform the federal holiday into a national day of community service where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to improve their communities.

This year the Hillside community will honor Martin Luther King Day of Service on Saturday, January 25, 2020, by participating in a Hillside Day of Service.  If you are interested in participating, please complete an application and submit to Dr. Macht no later than Wednesday, January 22, 2020.  The number of student participants will be limited to 100 this year, and students will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Please fill out the attached application form.

The day will start at 9:00 a.m. at Hillside School and will conclude at 1:00 p.m. at the school.  Some students will stay at Hillside to participate in on-site service activities, and other students will be transported off-site by bus to volunteer at two assisted living homes and The Family Aid Center. Parents of participating students will be responsible for getting students to Hillside and picking them up on time.  Interested parents are invited to accompany and help us.  Please indicate on the application form if you would like to participate.

There is no cost for this event, as all costs are covered by the generous support of Hillside’s PTO and a Roots & Shoots grant.  Lunch will be provided for the students.

Again, if you would like to represent Hillside School in our 10th annual Roots & Shoots Day of Service please complete the application on the next page and return to Dr. Katrina Macht before January 22, 2020.  (Please note, Chelsea Performers will be traveling to Chelsea Assisted Living.  Please DO NOT request a different volunteer experience. Please note on the application that you have already been selected by Mr. Zas or Mrs. Kane to perform. )

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch with Dr. Macht.

                                                                       Sincere regards,

                                                                       Hillside Roots & Shoots Committee
