A nest full of fun and basketball was enjoyed on the night of January 24 at Hillside

A night to remember was played on Wednesday January 24, at the Hillside Intermediate School.

The school’s “Night at the Nest”  Basketball Tournament, which was sponsored by the Hillside Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) was held before an enthused crowd in the gymnasium.

The night started with members of the Hillside Chorus, led by Choral Director Tony Sgro, performing a rousing rendition of the National Anthem.

The basketball competition then began with six teams of three players each, composed of Hillside parents and teachers Mr. Blanford, Ms. Manara, Mr. Wright, Mr. Gum and Mr. Hungarter and refereed by the Grammar Guru herself, Ms. Swensen. And a special guest referee, Coach Gene MacAteer, head coach of the Bridgewater-Raritan High School boys’ basketball team.

Then,  just before the championship game MC’s Ms. Hueston and Mr. Heinbach called students down to the court, where Mrs. Zaneto and Mr. Boutilier conducted some very competitive timed-shoot outs.  Finally the last game of the night was played, with fans on their feet to watch Mr. and Mrs. Rutherford and Mr. Hungarter led their team to victory. This was the second championship in a row for  the Rutherford team.

According to PTO officials, Hillside thanks everyone who participated in making this event so much fun and a huge success, raising over $2,000 for the  amazing PTO.
